Wife’s Relentless Prayers Saved Me – by Rick Mercer

I know that God can save to the uttermost because it wasn’t that long ago that my wife, Cindy, cried out to God in pain, “Save my husband! Save my marriage!”

I can almost feel the pain as she asked God to free me from the addictions that were ripping our marriage apart and killing me. Drugs, alcohol, lust, and tobacco had taken over my life. Everyone told her to give up … he will never change.

I praise God that she didn’t give up on God or me. She made the decision to pray until God gave her a miracle, and God did work a miracle! I am an ordained pastor in God’s last-day church because of those relentless prayers.

Of course there are lots of other miracles that took place for that to happen, but one thing I know for sure. It all happened because of my wife’s relentless prayers.

The past several months God has impressed me to pray for my brothers and sisters around the world who are bringing their prayer requests to the “We Pray” personal online prayer room.

I feel the pain in their hearts as they pray for their spouses to join them in worship with our wonderful, loving God. I sense their desperation as they pray for children who have strayed far away from God and His remnant church. I can sense the fear they have for family and friends who are under the bondage of Satan and held tight by addictions. I can almost hear them shaking heaven as they pray, “Dear Lord, save them! Please save them!”

Then my heart leaps for joy because I know He can and I know He will answer their prayers! Hebrews 7:25 tells us, “Wherefore He is able to save to the uttermost.”   There is no problem too big for Him.

Right now, He is waiting on you to send up those prayers for your marriage, for your children, and for your humanly impossible situations. Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up. You might be one prayer away from a miracle.

Maybe there is a loved one in your life who does not know God. Maybe you’ve prayed for years and still there seems to be no answers. Maybe things look so discouraging you are wondering if you should give up praying altogether! DO NOT! Persevere! Keep praying!

The Bible tells us, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9). In Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, Ellen White writes, “Jesus sees His true church on the earth, whose greatest ambition is to cooperate with Him in the grand work of saving souls. He hears their prayers, presented in contrition and power, and Omnipotence cannot resist their plea for the salvation of any tried, tempted member of Christ’s body” (p. 19). Also, in another place we are told, “There is no danger that the Lord will neglect the prayers of His people. The danger is that in temptation and trial they will fail to persevere in prayer” (Christ Object Lessons, p. 175).

You may not see answers yet, but whatever the case, no matter how discouraging, don’t stop praying. Your relentless prayers  are being heard. You may be one prayer away from a miracle.

Dear Heavenly Father, how we long for our loved ones to know  You as we do. How we long for them to see the light and experience the peace and joy of serving You. Please strengthen us to hold on and not give up praying, even if it is to our dying breath. We know it is Your will to save, and when we pray, You are able to do what You otherwise could not do (GC, p. 525). Please help us to endure until we see these loved ones brought into the Kingdom. Please help us to keep praying until we see the answers to our prayers. In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.
