Jump to Prayer FocusBible Passage for Meditation: 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
Key Verse: “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10
Can you imagine winning a war with a divided army? I remember when my high school history teacher shared with us stories of different battles lost and won in world history. Back then it made me think, What if one day somebody declared war against my country and we were not ready or united to fight for our sovereignty? What would happen? Obviously, we would be easily defeated. When I think about this, I’m reminded that we are at active war, a spiritual war. The battle is currently going on between Christ and Satan, and we each have a part to play in deciding the outcome.
Now, more than ever before, we as a body of believers need God’s Spirit to unite us, for if we are divided or each pursuing our own way, we will be overcome by the attacks of the enemy.
Inspiration tells us, “We are nearing the end of the earth’s history, and God calls upon all to lift the standard bearing the inscription, ‘Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.’ He calls upon His people to work in perfect harmony. . . . No word is to be spoken to discourage any, for this grieves the heart of Christ and greatly pleases the adversary. All need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit; all should refrain from censuring and disparaging remarks and draw near to Christ, that they may appreciate the heavy responsibilities which the co-workers with Him are carrying. ‘Press together; press together,’ are the words of our divine Instructor. Unity is strength; disunion is weakness and defeat” (Counsels on Health, pp. 517, 518, emphasis supplied).
How often is the Holy Spirit grieved when He sees one of Christ’s soldiers leave the ranks and try to battle darkness alone? Now is not the time to fight alone. Now is the time to come together, putting away pride, self-sufficiency, and selfishness. We need to hold fast to the mighty Rock of our Foundation. We need Him to lead us.
“Love of self, pride and self-sufficiency lie at the foundation of the greatest trials and discords that have ever existed in the religious world. Again and again the angel has said to me, ‘Press together, press together, be of one mind, of one judgment.’ Christ is the Leader, and you are brethren; follow Him. Walk in the light as He is in the light. Those who walk in the footsteps of Christ shall not walk in darkness, but those who draw apart in unsanctified independence cannot have God’s presence and blessing in the work” (Christian Leadership, p. 11).
Let us be united in Christ so He can bring the victory!
Heart Prayer Challenge:
Loving Father, the spiritual battle we are facing in these last days is much too big for us. We surrender all to You. Everything that makes us think we can accomplish the mission on our own, we yield to Your control. Give us humble hearts, willing to depend on You completely. May Your Holy Spirit add to our lives the wonderful fruit of unity with You and with our fellow brothers and sisters as we walk through the hardships of this world to our heavenly home. Please, unite us in one spirit and one mission. This is our urgent need. Thank You for answering. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
