Once we choose to accept Christ, we begin a heavenward journey. Even if we are the only believer in our family, or in our community, we are not alone. In fact we join a body of believers that encircle the globe. But this journey toward heaven is not always an easy one and requires faith at every step.
When Abraham was beginning his journey of faith, knowing not where He was going and knowing not whether he would have a son, God took Abraham out one night and asked him if he could number the stars. “Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them?” (Gen. 15:15).
While Abraham could not number the stars, we are told that our God not only numbers the stars, but He also calls them all by name (Ps. 147:4). If God knows the stars by name, how much more does He know each one of us by name?
Sometime this coming week, take a few moments to look up at the stars and to remember what a great God we serve! Although He’s the God of the heavens, He cares about our needs today. And if He cares about us, how much more does He care about the needs of His church.
Heart Prayer Challenge
Dear Father, we know that you have created the stars and stretched out the heavens by your great power. We also know that you care about each one of us, as well as your church. Show us how to pray, how to walk by faith, and how to live for you today and in the coming weeks as we continue to pray. In your precious name, Amen.
