Bible Passage for Meditation: John 15:1-8
Key Verse: “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7
Happy Sabbath, Prayer Warriors!
For the first 10 days our devotional focus was on “Spiritual Awakening/Seeking God in earnest.” As a result, you heard some testimonies from our blogging team on how God awakened us to our spiritual need, or convicted us of the importance of a deeper walk with Him.
To truly be effective intercessors on behalf of our world church, we need to continually humble ourselves and recognize our spiritual need; that means we don’t forget where God has brought us from (what He’s rescued us from), and also, we recognize our continual need to keep growing. “Higher than the highest human thought can reach is God’s ideal for His children,” Ellen White writes (Education, p. 18).
Have any of us reached this ideal yet? Probably not; and so begins the next step in our prayer journey.
During the next 10 days, our devotional focus will be on the Word of God, and how it affects our lives personally and practically. If we are to be strong in prayer, we must become truly grounded and strong in God’s Word, not just as a church (although this is vital), but personally.
Inspiration tells us, “The Bible is God’s voice speaking to us, just as surely as though we could hear it with our ears. If we realized this, with what awe would we open God’s Word, and with what earnestness would we search its precepts! The reading and contemplation of the Scriptures would be regarded as an audience with the Infinite One” (Testimonies to the Church, vol. 6, p. 393).
Let us continue praying for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our worldwide church. Let’s also pray that God would give us a deeper love for His Word.
Heart Prayer Challenge
Heavenly Father, as we begin this next 10 days of prayer, focusing on Your Word, we ask that You would give us new eyes of appreciation for the great gift You’ve given us in the Bible. Help us to love Your Word, to make time for Your Word, and to learn what it means to abide in Your Word daily. For You promise us in John 15:7 that if we abide in You, and Your words abide in us, we can ask what we will, and it will be done unto us, and we will bear fruit for Your glory. We have big things we are asking for as we pray for our world church. So we need Your Word to abide in our hearts today. Thank you for hearing and answering this prayer. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
