When God’s people unite for the sake of sharing the love of Christ with others, special miracles happen — and that’s just what we saw this month as about 700 volunteers converged at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley, West Virginia for a free clinic organized by Your Best Pathway to Health.
The goal was to minister to the physical needs of those we met, and with God’s help we accomplished our goal. More than 1,700 people received treatment for medical, dental, and vision needs, as well as a sundry other services such as haircuts, massages, and counseling. Some $6 million in health care was given, $50,000 in medication was given away, and many hearts and lives were changed.
As a pastor in the Mountain View Conference, whose territory includes Beckley, I was privileged to be part of the clinic’s chaplaincy department. The first day we opened I was walking the long lines outside when a woman asked me, “What are you guys doing?”
I explained that I was one of the chaplains on the team, and I shared with her about the process of Pathway to Health.
She then asked if I could pray with her. She mentioned that she was in the process of adopting a little girl whom she and her husband had cared for from the age of one week. But the girl’s biological mother now wanted the girl back and had delayed the adoption.
Together, while standing in line, we prayed and claimed the promise of Matthew18:19 that if we agree in prayer, it will be granted us. We also prayed that the situation could be resolved quickly for the sake of the child.
A couple hours later, I was walking in the waiting area of the dental department and saw the mother seated there with a big smile. She happily told me that the lawyer assisting her with the adoption had called shortly after we prayed and announced that he had secured a meeting to finalize the adoption the very next week.
“Hallelujah!” I exclaimed.
Immediately we had a prayer of thanksgiving to our Father in heaven.
The mother then told me that while we had prayed earlier, another chaplain at the free clinic had been praying with her husband in the parking lot.
God truly orchestrated this blessing to fall upon this family that day. It was a privilege that we could be part of their miracle story.
